A TOP country house hotel has opened a major new extension – in time for The Open Golf tournament.
Architecture and design practice, The Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP), has completed the £500,000 expansion at The Villa in Wrea Green.
The 19th Century property was a former gentleman’s residence and the expansion gives the hotel 31 bedrooms alongside its highly-rated restaurant.
Part of the expansion project saw building work take place above the hotel’s bar area.
FWP designed the extension – which also utilised existing buildings at the hotel and restaurant. It also played a leading role in the planning process.
Paul Henderson at FWP said the firm’s expertise had helped create an extension in keeping with The Villa’s impressive existing building.
He added: “The staterooms they have created really are something special. Our design helped the team at The Villa to extend above the existing bar area at the hotel to create new bedrooms and to convert existing parts of the hotel into the bedrooms.”
The Villa was bought in 2010 by entrepreneur Simon Rigby.
He appointed FWP as part of a pledge to use as many local skills and services as possible to help the business grow and develop.
He said: “Our aim is to build the reputation of The Villa as one of the best country house hotels in the North West with a level of service, food and comfort to rival anyone.”
Mr Henderson added: “Throughout the design process we were acutely aware of the special look and feel The Villa has and our aim was to ensure the extension was a continuation of that.
“Events like the Open Golf attract visitors looking for this high standard of accommodation and The Villa can now offer more luxury than before.”
The tournament is expected to attract around 200,000 people, eager to see the biggest golf stars in the world, to the Fylde coast.
FWP’s designers have also overseen a major investment in award-winning Lake District Hotels’ venues including the Inn on the Lake at Glennridding in Ullswater.
