Takeaway brings a Caribbean flavour

Blackpool has no shortage of takeaways for hungry visitors and residents...but until now there wasn’t much for anyone peckish for a spot of curried goat.

Phillipson Peltier, who has roots in the idyllic island of Dominica, reckons he has spotted a gap in the market and opened what he claims is the resort’s only Caribbean takeaway.

The 37-year-old, who has lived on the Fylde coast since leaving the British Army in 2011, opened Caribbean Cuisine, on Abingdon Street, at the weekend.

He said: “We do all types of fresh food from curried chicken to steamed fish to rice and peas. It’s all traditional Caribbean food.

“A lot of people like the curried goat because it’s something a bit different.

“It has been brilliant so far – I even had to close early on Saturday because we had no food left.”

Mr Peltier, who spent 12 years in the Army, said he wanted to add to the wide range of food available in Blackpool.

He added: “A lot of people come and ask about different types of food. I was looking at the area and people have to travel to places like Leeds and Manchester to get something different like Caribbean food.”

Fast food website Just Eat has Mr Peltier’s business listed as the only place offering Caribbean food in Blackpool, while Trip Advisor has nothing yet in that category.

The entrepreneur, who currently lives in Poulton, runs the shop with help from chef Matthew Sutherland.
