Have your say

I have recently made a number of student presentations about career progression and on the benefits of being self employed.

In essence, I want them to understand one word more than anything they ever listen to or learn, and that word is RESPONSIBILITY.

People will always find an excuse, a reason, a scapegoat as to why their life has not been what they wanted or expected.

I label it as the “If they didn’t have bad luck they would have no luck at all” syndrome.

I do not believe in Jinxing, Bad Luck or anything negative because life is a bit like electricity – you need the negative to drive the positive.

But when things go wrong in our careers or businesses it is always easy to blame something or someone else without looking at ourselves and wondering whether we could have done things differently or better.

What are my aspirations? What do I want out of life?

A well paid job? A big house and new car?

You may want or think you are entitled to all of the above but what are you prepared to do make them dreams a reality? If you read the biographies of successful people, how many of them spend their lives watching Soaps, Reality TV or typing nonsense on Facebook?

Think about copying the habits and skills of successful people.

Look at your role model - is it some unknown half wit from a reality TV show or a successful Business / Career person – then compare your life to theirs.

We are who we are by imitation. And that includes our aspirations!
