A SPORT media and technology firm is set to expand – just months after it opened offices in Blackpool.

Elonex Sport, based on Avroe Crescent on Blackpool Business Park, is taking on more staff after its initial 16 employees proved a huge success.

The firm designs electronic scoreboards and perimeter boards at sports grounds.

Its new LED screens technology gives scoreboards and perimeter boards a high-definition quality. The Sport division of the firm sells space on the boards to companies across the country.

Managing director Christian Clayton said he was delighted with the speed the firm has taken off.

He said: “The business is growing tremendously.

“We have grown that fast that we are already under-resourced –which is a nice problem for us to have.

“The Fylde coast is known as a good media area – we could have gone into Manchester or Preston, but I live around here so it made good economic sense to open the business here and create jobs in the area.”

The firm is currently talking to top rugby union and league clubs about its technology.

Mr Clayton added: “It’s new for a firm to be looking at rugby clubs like this, as the technology has only really been seen in Premiership football before.”

Top Premiership football clubs charge as much as £38,000 per minute for footage to be shown on their screens – West Bromwich Albion charges the least, at £15,000 a minute.
