Plans by the owners of a popular Fylde pub to extend its opening hours by five hours each day have been welcomed.
Mitchells and Butlers Retail Ltd has applied to Fylde Council to extend the opening hours of the Blossoms in Woodlands Road, Ansdell, to allow the serving of food in the morning.
If passed by the council’s licensing team, it could mean the pub will open from 7am to midnight from Monday to Sunday.
No changes are planned for the pub’s licence, with alcohol continuing to be served from noon.
Ansdell Coun Richard Redcliffe said he welcomed the application, admitting it was a positive step considering the closure of many pubs across the UK.
He added: “If there are no changes to when they can serve alcohol, in a sense you can argue it is a public house offering a service to the community.
“I am also aware that, in a keen and competitive environment, we know on a national scale we are seeing the negative impact on pubs, but the Blossoms is vibrant and flourishing.
“It serves a local need, and I think the owners have probably done some research before deciding this.”
The pub, which first opened in the 1970s, is popular with punters, and is part of the Mitchell and Butlers’ Sizzling Pubs chain.
A spokesman for Mitchells and Butlers Retail Ltd added: “The application is to extend the opening hours of The Blossoms premises, to trade from 7am on Monday to Sunday in order to serve breakfast.
“All licensable activities and timings for such licensable activities are to remain the same.”
The pub currently opens every day from noon, with food served until 10pm.
