ALMOST 100 homes were left without electricity due to a fault in an underground cable.

A total of 96 homes and businesses in Bond Street, Moore Street, Bright Street and Rawcliffe Street, all South Shore, suffered a loss of power at 9pm on Boxing Day.

Engineers were working to restore power to around half of customers by 2pm on Thursday, and to the rest as quickly as possible.

Phil Briggs, response manager for Electricity North West, said: “We apologise to customers affected by this underground cable fault.

“The nature of this fault makes it very difficult to identify.

“Our engineers have been on site since Wednesday night and they are using specialist equipment to detect the exact location of the fault so we can unearth the cable in the right place to repair it.

“If you experience any issues with your electricity please call our 24 hour free emergency line on 0800 195 4142.”
