Lancashire Euro MP Julie Ward has confirmed she will speak to local businesses and students attending a Question Time-style event organised by the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.
Labour MEP Julie, who was elected to the European Parliament last year, has taken the place of Theresa Griffin who has had to withdraw from the event due to personal commitments.
She will go head-to-head with Conservative Sajjad Karim and UKIP’s Steven Woolfe in the event at Preston’s College on Friday, September 18.
Julie said: “I am a committed European, having seen the difference mobility makes to young people, transforming them into self-reliant, outward-looking aspirational beings capable of thinking for themselves while working co-operatively to solve problems.
“On a macro-level, being part of the world’s largest single market helps to build business confidence and attract investment while at the same time safeguarding employment and consumer rights.
“Collaborative university research projects, supported by the EU and other funders, fuels innovation across a wide range of sectors, helping to prepare the way for new high-quality jobs, especially in the tech field.
“As a lifelong co-operator I believe our best interests are served when we work together in a spirit of enterprise to tackle difficult global challenges, ensuring prosperity for all, not just the few.”
Chamber chief executive Babs Murphy said: “We are delighted to welcome Julie to our event which should prompt a very lively debate.
“With a cross-section of political parties represented on our panel, it should be a really interesting event and I urge members to book their place before it fills up.”
