Bosses at Ribby Hall Village in Wrea Green are celebrating its health club being in the running for a prestigious award.

Just four clubs have been short-listed for the Health Club of the Year – Multi Use category in the UK Flame Awards 2014, including Ribby Hall. The venue already holds the title from the 2013 awards.

Ribby Hall, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, has also scooped the 2013 Best Health Club honour, at the National Fitness Awards.

The shortlist for the Flame Awards was whittled down from more than 100 health clubs. After an initial submission, the judges made mystery visits and carried out spontaneous interviews with members of the club.

The winners will be revealed at a star-studded ceremony entitled The Ball of Fire, with around 800 leisure industry representatives attending, at Telford International Centre, on Wednesday.

Mark Leech, the health club’s senior manager, said: “We are continually investing in something new for our members and local residents to experience. After investing £1m in our gym facilities last year, we have invested £250,000 in changing rooms and the opening of our new sports store Activate, can only further enhance our offering.

“It couldn’t be done without the hard work and dedication of my colleagues, as well as continual reinvestment. I’m immensely proud.”
