THREE Fylde coast firms proved worthy winners in the annual Be Inspired Business Awards.

And the region’s firms dominated the shortlists for the various awards, held at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Friday night.

Blackpool’s Danbro was named Business of the Year and Employer of the Year, Green Business of the Year went to Gannon Oils in Poulton, and Submarine Manufacturing from Newton was named Exporter of the Year in the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce event.

Damian Broughton, managing director of Danbro, said: “We are thrilled to be winners of business and employer of the year. Our success boils down to the hard work that everyone puts in at Danbro and it’s great to be recognised at a prestigious event like the BIBAS.

“We anticipate that 2011 is going to be a great year for Danbro and we will continually strive to improve what we do as a business.”

The firm was established back in 1999 by Damian Broughton in a small garage in Kirkham and has since developed into one of the fastest-growing privately-owned companies in the UK. Due to excellent growth rates and expansion, Danbro has also featured in the Sunday Times Fast track 100 for four consecutive years since its maiden listing in 2007 – one of only two companies to have ever achieved such a feat.

Mark Gannon was equally delighted to collect an environmental award for his oil firm. He said: “BP has had such a bad press but we sell oil just like them.

“We’ve proved you can be green as well.

“We sell oils and lubricants and have launched a totally new concept which has taken off – fully biodegradeable containers.

“And we’ve now moved from business to business sales to retail units as well.”

The firm recently expanded its Poulton base with the purchase of an additional 5,000 sq ft of industrial space adjacent to its base on Poulton Business Park.

The BiBa awards were presented by Christopher Biggins, and former M People singer Heather Small took to the stage to entertain attendees.

Also nominated from the Fylde coast for various awards at the plush ceremony were: Excellence in Customer Service – Danbro, Evans Easyspace and Blackpool Sandcastle; Leadership Team of the Year – Blackpool Sandcastle; Employer of the Year – Danbro; Green Business of the Year – RKMS; Entrepreneur of the Year – Mark Gannon; Tourism Business of the Year – Merlin, Blackpool Sandcastle; Creative Business of the Year – Jelly Media, MMC Media; Business of the Year – Inspired Energy Solutions, Danbro and Healthpoint.
