A £300,000 restaurant refurbishment is expected to lead to more jobs being created.

Franchisee Nigel Dunnington is set to plough money into the McDonalds in Boundary Road, Lytham, to give the restaurant a brand new look.

And he hopes to create at least 10 more positions once the cosmetic changes have been made to the Boundary Road restaurant.

Mr Dunnington said: “There will be big changes going on inside the restaurant and it will be transformed.

“The changes will be more contemporary and certainly more relevant to where we are.

“People will not recognise the place and it will be far more comfortable.”

Mr Dunnington now has eight restaurants from Preston through to Blackpool and has a long history with the fast food chain.

His long career with the company included a three-year spell in Chicago at McDonald’s headquarters where he was head of worldwide operations, before he decided to become a franchisee.

His changes mean more jobs in the near future at the Lytham restaurant.

He said: “There is a knock-on effect that there will be more jobs here.

“Hopefully it will mean people will come more frequently and we’ll see some new visitors.

“And more custom needs more staff. I think between now and the end of the year we’ll take on 10 more staff at least.”

Mr Dunnington’s workforce is now around 550 across his eight restaurants, and has grown every time he has refurbished a restaurant. The restaurant will remain open throughout the works.
