INTERNATIONAL hotel chain Holiday Inn is set to open in Blackpool.

And although tight-lipped about their plans, the firm exclusively told The Gazette it hopes to have its premises in the town up and running by 2014.

In a brief statement, a hotel spokeswoman said: “I can confirm a Holiday Inn will be opening in Blackpool.

“All I can say is we hope to have it open by the back end of 2013 or early 2014.”

Bosses at the hotel chain will not even reveal the proposed location of its hotel plans.

But the announcement comes a week after the owners of a new building for the former Yates’s site in Talbot Square started marketing a 100-bedroom hotel and retail units on the site.

As yet, interest in the site has been kept under wraps.

A part of InterContinental Hotels Group, the Holiday Inn brand is aimed at the mid-price range market, sitting between its top-end Intercontinental and Crowne Plaza brands and budget Staybridge and Candlewood Suite hotels.

Natalie Wyatt, of VisitBlackpool, said she was delighted with the news.

She added: “It’s all about quality and brands and ensuring that Blackpool is recognised for the quality brands - whether hotels, restaurants or attractions - that we have on offer.”
