A Blackpool online business has its sights trained on the high street after achieving worldwide success online.
Binoculars UK is opening a showroom on Victoria Road West, Cleveleys, after increasing sales helped it reach a turnover of £1m.
Owner Simon Ramsden said the business has grown from a spare time operation to a full time success story over the past 10 years, driven by the power of the internet.
He said: “We’ve seen phenomenal growth over the years and the internet has meant we can reach customers as far afield as Australia and the Falklands.
“We’re constantly looking at how we optimise our online marketing to reach our audiences and we’re excited by the opportunity to boost our business overseas.”
The firm uses a mixture of natural listings and Google adverts to heighten its profile.
It success comes after Blackpool was crowned one of the UK’s eTowns in March, Google’s first award to recognise the areas where businesses are generating the highest rates of growth through the Internet.
Online sales generated by UK retailers from international markets are expected to soar sevenfold to £28bn by 2020, research published by OC&C and Google says.
Laurian Clemence, from Google said: “Businesses that embrace the internet grow almost eight times faster than those who don’t. We have seen a huge increase in searches for British retailers and brands from overseas.”
