Ribby Hall Village has closed its public swimming area until April 1 while extensive work is carried out.

The pool used by members and visitors alike and well known for its two water slides, was opened by members of the TV Gladiators in 1997.

It was given a refurbishment eight years ago but bosses at the Wrea Green attraction decided the time was right for a complete overhaul.

It follows improvements to the health club in recent years including a new gym, two new studios, and new adult changing rooms.

The new pool will feature new slides worth £400,000, including a 48m interactive play slide.

Members and guests will climb the tower and the new slide will take them out of the building and back in while taking part in an interactive game on the inside of the slide.

Scores are then recorded once the ride is complete and can be uploaded to social media platforms and the top three scores will displayed in the pool area.

Bosses at Ribby Hall said the project was a challenging one because the pool forms the centre of the building and as a result, new access ways have had to be created for members and guests so they can continue to use the other facilities while works are in full progress. The new pool will have new filtration technology, new air handling unit, UV system which provides ultimate clear bathing waters and will enable us to reduce the amount of chemicals we use which will be more eco friendly.

World Leisure from Chorley, were chosen as one of the main contractors and will work as part of a 40 strong team consisting of various contractors in architecture, electricals, plumbing, construction, carpentry, steel work, decorators and design.

Mark Leech, senior manager of Ribby Hall Village, said: “It is important as a business to continually invest and improve the facilities we offer to our customers.

“In the past four years we have reinvested £1.74m into the Health Club and the new leisure pool is further evidence of our continued commitment to this resulting in a club full of first class facilities on offer for our members and guests alongside first class customer service.”
