Fylde MP Mark Menzies has thanked the Prime Minister for helping secure thousands of aerospace jobs on the Fylde  – following an order for 24 new Typhoon aircraft for Qatar.

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon and his Qatari counterpart, Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah, signed a Statement of Intent concerning Qatar’s proposed purchase of 24 Typhoon aircraft on Sunday.

Mr Menzies said: “I want to thank the Prime Minister and the Defence Secretary for all the support they have given to the workforce at the BAE facility in Warton in my constituency.

“This deal will ultimately safeguard thousands of jobs on the Typhoon production line in Fylde.

“I am delighted the efforts of the skilled workforce at Warton have been rewarded with another order worth hundreds of millions of pounds.”

He added that the UK and Qatar share a close and longstanding Defence relationship, and the Statement of Intent further reinforces this, deepening military cooperation between the two, and the opportunity to further enhance the security of all partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The Typhoon is a multi-role combat aircraft with long-term potential to be at the forefront of air power for many years.
