Fylde coast graphics firm's award winning year

A Fylde coast 3D animation specialist has picked up another European award for its work on high-profile computer games.

Westby-based Realtime UK which also has offices in Manchester won its second DEVELOP award for its cutting edge digital animation work on the driving game Dakar ‘18.

The studio, set up by Tony Prosser in his Lytham bedroom and which produces complex computer graphics for a variety of customers worldwide, said it capped its most successful year yet

Following the success of their cinematic piece Lost – a production created for Amazon using its own game engine technology – RealtimeUK won its first prestigious DEVELOP award.

And after another year of working on successful projects including, Jurassic World, Dakar ‘18 and Subnautica; it has picked up a second DEVELOP award at the UK and European games development industry awards event in Brighton.

Tony Prosser, managing director said: “ Dakar ‘18 can be viewed as a new dawn in computer animation which RealtimeUK have called to continue to spearhead here in the North-West.

“We are already employing the learnings of this new technology across new platforms including VR and AR to create experiences for World class clients including Microsoft, Bentley and Volkswagen.”

Dave Cullinane, account director games said: “Dakar ‘18 is the fantastic culmination of our in-engine efforts.”

He said the trailer was used to announce the development of the new racing title, and was primarily aimed at a specific gaming audience particularly savvy in high quality CG production techniques.

Alongside the studio’s efforts to grow and evolve with the market, RealtimeUK said it was also keeping true to its roots in creating pre-rendered cinematics for big IP titles such as the new Jurassic World Evolution game which links in to this year’s blockbuster movie.

It gave the studio staff the opportunity to flex their creative muscles and put into place a production pipeline that would not only deliver a first class result, but one that would accommodate the feedback of major global stakeholders in Hollywood.

The cinematic trailer for the game reached more than 31 million views within its first two weeks of being released- a record for the studio.
