After more than 40 years going it alone a Fylde accountancy firm has decided to give its clients much more by joining one of the country’s fastest-growing groups.
The company, named after its founder Barbara M Thompson, has become part of the new RfM+more network which was only launched in January, yet already has six branches and a total turnover of £2.5m.
Partner Alan Meikle who has been with the company for 21 years said: “It is early days yet, but we have had very positive feedback from clients.
“I would like to think from a client’s point of view that things have remained the same in terms of service, but we can offer them much more as part of RfM.
“It is good to be part of a larger organisation. There is help and support available and it is good to know how the other offices operate so we are all working with the same objectives and goals.”
Barbara Thompson, who launched her company in 1974 from an outhouse at her home Summerdale in Head Dyke Lane, Pilling – still the company’s registered office - has now retired and handed over the reins to Alan.
He has particular experience of the farming sector after spending the early part of his career in a practice in Kirkby Lonsdale and Sedbergh which had a largely rural client base.
But, with offices in Leyland, Lancaster, Morecambe, Barrow and Ulverston, the newly-named RfM Fylde can boast plenty of expertise in other fields too.
The company ethos is to go the extra mile for clients to help solve difficulties they may have. Hence the group’s full name RfM Accountants+more.
“I would like to think that we provide a good service to clients by going out of our way to help,” explained Alan, a former Lancaster Royal Grammar School pupil and graduate of the University of Manchester.
“Clients often need finance and we can recommend them to bank contacts. I recently had a farming client who wanted to borrow £120,000 to buy some land and his bank were not very helpful. I recommended him to another bank who sorted it out without any problem and their set-up costs were much lower, so the client was delighted.
“We have clients who obtain finance and we recommend other clients to them. We have clients who have obtained finance where their own bank would not lend to them. And, when clients have financial problems, we have contacts who can give them bankruptcy and insolvency advice.”
