Ex-Tower owner’s fortunes on the rise

Former Blackpool Tower owner Trevor Hemmings wealth continues to grow.

The Sunday Times Rich List, published yesterday, said a surge in values at his Chorley-based property group Northern Trust and his Trust Inns pub chain had boosted the tycoon’s wealth.

The rankings showed Mr Hemmings wealth rising to £610m from £575m in the past 12 months, but saw him fall from 10th to 11th in the regional rankings.

The Duke of Westminster, whose property portfolio includes exclusive neighbourhoods in London, topped the table with his wealth rising to £7.8bn, up from £7.35bn in the past year.

Robin, Simon and Bobby Arora, the owners of retailer B&M Bargains, broke through the billion pound barrier up from £487m last year to £1.1bn, moving up from 13th to sixth in the North West rankings.

Matalan owner John Hargreaves is also up from £600m to £1bn.
