Blackpool’s famous trams have been given a huge vote of confidence after a lucrative sponsorship scheme and a top rating on an online review site.

The trams head the list of top things to do when visiting Blackpool on the Tripadvisor website with an almost five-star rating from more than 2,200 reviews and earning the organisation’s certificate of excellence.

Now the organisation which represents hotels and guest houses in the resort has teamed up with an online booking agency to take out huge adverts on two seafront trams.

Claire Smith, from Stay Blackpool, said: “The trams are the number one attraction according to visitors on Tripadvisor and so you can see their importance to Blackpool.

“In view of that Stay Blackpool decided to spend money on advertising on such a high profile attraction and to put money back into the resort.

“On-line bookings agency Eviivo do a lot of trade in the resort, it’s probably their second biggest target outside London, and run bookings on our site, so they decided to team up with us and they too wanted to put something back into Blackpool.

“They also sponsor the Illuminations and gave £20,000 last year and are giving more this time.

“It just shows the confidence in the town at the moment and people are spending the money on the back of last summer’s brilliantly successful season.

“Let’s hope this one is just as good.”

Bob Mason, from Blackpool Transport, aid: “We are happy to be working with our partners in this way and hope it will be a success for all concerned. We are all set to go with the increased frequency of the tram services for summer starting on June 28 and running until the illuminations. Tripadvisor has us down as the number one attraction in Blackpool and we are over the moon about that.

“People seem to like the quality of the new trams and the frequent services, and to be honest, it is the easiest way of getting from A to B along the Fylde coast to all the attractions.”
