A Fleetwood couple are hoping to be on the road to success with their new business specialising in coach trips for disabled people.
Kathryn and Heath Titman have launched Comfy Tours with the mission of offering tours for all, regardless of mobility issues.
Kathryn, who worked as a carer for 15 years and Heath an HGV driver also for 15 years, wanted a business where they could combine their talents and realised that there were not many coach companies who could cater for people in wheelchairs.
Kathryn said: “The Dragons’ Den team on TV always say go with your skills which for us was a bit of a problem.
“But I was supporting a girl who loved coaches but could not walk up the steps, so we did some research and we found a coach which used to belong to BLESMA the military charity for wounded soldiers.
“It is fantastic, with a wheelchair lift and a special disabled toilet at seating level. We can accommodate six wheelchairs and can use the lift for people who struggle with steps.
“We don’t cater exclusively to people who are disabled but are inclusive to them.
“We do a range of tired legs tours to places suitable for people with low mobility and we have entertainments and refreshments on board.”
Kathryn said they wanted to open up the coach travel option for those who felt that their disability prevented them from seeing the world.
She added: “Our first two trips were well received. We went to Bury Market and to Liverpool for the arrival of the Three Queens ocean liners.
“We have trips to Knowsley Safari Park, to a special hotel in The Trossachs which caters for disabled visitors, plus mystery tours coming up and we can cater for birthday parties.”
