Thousands of extra visitors are set to flood into Blackpool this week after the annual Illuminations were extended.
It was announced earlier this year that, instead of being turned off on November 3, as originally planned, the annual spectacular has been extended for a further seven days.
Merlin, which operates Blackpool Tower, Madame Tussauds, the Sealife Centre and Golden Isle Adventure Golf, is funding the bonus week.
Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: “The Illuminations were shown on Coronation Street and we want everyone to know that there is still chance to see them.
“As well as all the usual sights and sounds of Blackpool Illuminations, this year we also have an interactive app for smart phones and tablets.
“By scanning the QR codes which line the Illuminations route with the app, people can bring the Illuminations to life with a range of exciting characters who will give users a guided tour of the route.
“It really brings something extra to the Blackpool Illuminations experience.”
And Iain Hawkins, Head of Blackpool cluster at Merlin Entertainments, added: “We hope this will have a positive effect on other traders as well as great value for visitors.
“It’s a small price to pay for the great benefits we’ll see in the resort.”
