He explained: “Life got tough a few years ago. I was drinking too much and ended up on the street.

“I rejected help from family and friends and I was in a mess. When I stayed in a hostel I was offered the opportunity to follow a practical programme of recovery which I took.

“I have now changed my life around. Life is good and back on track.

“I even met my lovely wife in Blackpool and I have been working hard to make life better for us both.”

With some practical advice and guidance from the Get Started team Stuart is now running his own business and taking pride in his work and first class friendly service.

Stuart added: “I am so grateful that I got the chance to change.

“I now want to grow the business so that I can offer opportunities in the future to other people to train in the trade. I have been given so much support in Blackpool and good advice which has helped me get a better life.

I now want to give something back to help others.”

The Get Started programme offers advice, seminars and ongoing mentoring to help people with a business idea launch their dream.

Coun Mark Smith, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Enterprise and Economic Development, said: “Stuart’s story is inspiring.

“I hope that it will encourage others who want to start their own business and make positive changes to their lives.

“It’s also great news that Stuart will be looking to offer people jobs as his business becomes established. We all wish him well.”
