HSBC’s North West Head of Corporate Alan Rigby is to retire after almost 39 years’ service with the bank, the last 10 of which have been in his current role.

Alan will leave HSBC at the end of March next year and will remain in role until then to ensure an effective transition period.

He will be replaced by Sacha Balachandran, currently Head of Corporate Distribution Management in HSBC’s Corporate and Structured Banking team.

Sacha has been with HSBC since 2004 and has worked in a number of roles across Corporate Banking and Leveraged Finance. He is a Chartered Accountant and spent the early part of his career with KPMG and KPMG Corporate Finance. He will be based in Manchester from January 2014 but will be spending time in the region until then to meet the business and professional community.

Alan joined HSBC in 1975 and spent the first 13 years of his career in a number of roles across the North West before moving to London to work in credit and Corporate Banking. He returned to the North in 1994 to take on senior management roles before becoming North West Head of Corporate in November 2003.

Alison McGregor, HSBC Director of Corporate Banking for the North, said: “Alan has served HSBC with commitment and distinction for nearly four decades. He is a hugely respected, and liked, member of the North West business community who is known for his honesty, loyalty and consistency.

Alan Rigby said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my various posts which have given me enormous insight into how businesses operate.”
