A Fylde coast cheese shop owner is offering to give away his business if no buyers come forward before the end of the month.
Stuart Chesher, who runs the Crumbly Cheese shop in Victoria Road West, Cleveleys, said he was being forced to step down due to health reasons.
He has had the independent shop for the past four years and although it has been up for sale for some time no new buyer has been found.
An appeal has gone out on social media and on the Visit Cleveleys website for prospective new owners, saying that Stuart would even be prepared to give the business away free.
Stuart confirmed he had made the free offer and said: “I have to be out by November 29. Originally it was the 17th but they asked me to stay on a little longer.
“I don’t want it to close and the community doesn’t want it to close; that’s why I made the offer.
“The potential is huge for this shop.
“I don’t know very much about delicatessens but if someone was to come in with expertise in olives, chorizos or even pies this could be a great little business.
“I know all about cheeses and jams but I am not a deli person.
“It’s a great location here, like a window on the world, on Victoria Road opposite Nutter Road, when the cars come down the headlights light us up so it is great for window displays.”
He said he has had a few people making enquiries but not seriously and was awaiting a couple more people to come in to look at the business.
He added: “There are people who have bought cheese here for 40 years.
“I have had lots of little old ladies coming in and saying they will be very disappointed, so it would be a shame if it were to close.
“Cleveleys has some great independent shops and it is important to keep that going and support the local community. I was brought up in Bispham and worked in transport in Liverpool for 20 years, so I wanted to take on this shop as it was close to home.”
Local MP Paul Maynard has tweeted: “I saw this on the Visit Cleveleys website and felt I needed to promote the post.
“Part of Cleveleys attraction is its small independent shops.
“Losing the Crumbly Cheese would be a big loss and I hope someone will take it off the owner’s hands.”
