Ameon will install all building services to a pre- designed package by M & E consultants Burro Happold, with the addition of a number of specialist packages designed by Ameon to reflect the company’s expertise in the field of renewable technologies.

The company’s own packages include the design and installation of earth tube ventilation, solar thermal, under-floor heating, ground source heat pump system, building management systems control, lighting control CCTV and intruder detection systems.

The 14-month contract will involve around 60 Ameon workers.

Ameon’s managing director, Robin Lawson said: “We have undertaken a number of high profile contracts in Manchester but to work on the Whitworth Art Gallery refurbishment will offer a number of unique challenges, because the gallery will remain open throughout.

“However, we have the resources, technological expertise and creativity to manage in such circumstances, so we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
