A £1m investment will see a new restaurant open on Blackpool’s Golden Mile later this year.
Las Iguanas, which specialises in Latin American food, is set to take over the building at the junction of Church Street and the Promenade which was formerly occupied by Burger King.
The scheme, which will see a new frontage put on the premises, will also create 50 jobs.
A spokesman for Las Iguanas, which runs a chain of restaurants nationwide, said: “We will be investing over £1m, opening a fabulous 6,000 square foot Latin American restaurant and bar on the seafront which will create upwards of 50 local jobs from front-of-house and back-of-house managers to waiters, chefs and cocktail bartenders.
“Our new recruits will be joining an award winning team as we are on the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work for list again this year and hold the Investors In People gold award and champion status along with the best restaurant cocktails in the UK according to Restaurant Magazine.
“We think that Blackpool is a vibrant and exciting town and that residents and visitors alike will embrace something a little bit different to the hum drum.
“We’ll be bringing the fresh tastes, colours and beats of South America to town this autumn so look out for the arrival of a big slice of Latin magic.”
A planning application has been submitted to Blackpool Council for changes to the front of the building, whose lower ground floor is occupied by Laser Quest.
A report accompanying the application says the design will reflect the “bustling and vibrant commercial area” as well as its “unique character.”
The company has already started recruiting for management positions and people can find more details at www.iguanaspeople.co.uk.
