Boe’s major professional break-through came on Broadway, as Alfred Boe, in Baz Luhrmann’s production of La Boheme in 2002, for which the cast received a Tony Honors(CRCT) Award in 2003.

He will take over the role on Broadway, where the show’s revival production opened in March last year, from Tony and Olivier Award winning actor Ramin Karimloo.

He sent a series of Tweets following the announcement, saying: “Thank you so much for all your wonderful messages about me going back into Les Miserables on Broadway. Overwhelmed by all your beautiful messages, much love.

“Can’t wait to join the cast of @LesMizBway. Sending my love and respect to all.”
