BREAKING: Roads closed after major flat fire in Blackpool

A road has been closed and people evacuated after a major flat fire in Blackpool.

Eight engines from across the county were called to the blaze on the Promenade at around 4am this morning.

The Promenade has been closed in both directions between Springfield Road and Cocker Square while emergency services deal with the incident.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "The fire brigade were called to a property fire on the promenade. The building and surrounding properties have been evacuated and these people have been relocated by Blackpool Council.

"A floor collapsed in the building and it is thought to be unsafe.

"Road closures have been put in place along the Promenade."

Fire crews are still on the scene.

It is not currently known if anybody was injured.
