A planned strike by firefighters across the Fylde coast has been averted after Government and union bosses agreed to begin negotiations over a pensions row.

Crews had been due to walk out alongside colleagues from across England and Wales this evening, but the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced it would today start talks after being present with a deal.

Chris Molloy, Blackpool’s FBU representative, welcomed the news but warned there was still a long way to go until a settlement was reached.
