Brain surgery woe of car crash victim

Maude Rubner, 90, from Ansdell, suffered a broken wrist and bruising down one side of her body following the accident in St Annes Road West, St Annes on March 9.

But her family today said she started to feel unwell several weeks ago and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where it was discovered she had a bleed on the brain.

Mrs Rubner was then transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where she underwent surgery to reduce the bleeding last Saturday.

She is currently recovering in Blackpool Victoria where doctors are assessing her condition.

Her daughter Deborah Kirk said: “I am not sure how long she will remain in hospital for, but she will not be back for a while.

“She has to undergo extensive physiotherapy, I am not sure what movement she will retain.”

Mrs Kirk had to move in with her mother after the incident to ensure she recovered from the accident, which happened as she used the zebra crossing.

Before the collision, Mrs Rubner went to the gym six days-a-week and regularly took part in Tai Chi sessions.

Mrs Kirk said: “It’s a zebra crossing where my mum got knocked over which people use all the time.”

PC Chris Jackson, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Despite initially recovering well from the collision, the woman’s condition has since deteriorated and we are trying to establish exactly how the collision occurred.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
