And David, 12, got to meet his favourite player Colin Daniel who sent him a recorded message and shirt while he lay in a coma in a Spanish hospital.

David suffered a seizure when he fell off a lilo in the pool at his hotel in Girona near Barcelona.

His brother Adam, 15,held him up out of the water and shouted for help. His father Mark dived in to pull him out. David was put in an induced coma to help him recover.

South Shore-based grandad Bob, who takes the family to watch Blackpool when they are over from there home in Ireland, arranged for the club to send a message and his family played Colin’s recording to encourage him.

Now fully recovered, David and Adam got the VIP treatment at Blackpool FC where David’s favourite player Colin scored in the 2-1 defeat.

Dad Mark said: “David is doing brilliantly, he is back football training every week and no recurrence of his seizures, he was really looking forward to thanking Colin Daniel in person.

“The boys had a great day meeting all the players and all involved couldn’t do enough for us. It wasn’t the result we were hoping for but at least Colin Daniel got his fourth of the season.

“David was delighted to see him score and walk out with him on the pitch, all in all a memorable day that David will never forget!

Colin Daniel said: “It was great to finally meet David and his family, and I’m really pleased to see that he’s fit and well again.

“I’ve been kept up-to-date with his progress by the club ever since the accident.

“Though the result didn’t go our way against Doncaster, I hope that he and Adam really enjoyed the experience of meeting the lads and walking out at Bloomfield Road.”
