Boy seriously hurt after being hit by car

A 12-year-old boy is in hospital after being knocked down by a car as he was crossing a busy Lytham road.

The boy suffered serious head, shoulder and pelvis injuries in the collision on Saltcotes Road on Friday night.

Police say he was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a Toyota Yaris at around 9.30pm.

The boy was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital, where he remains. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Sgt Claire Pearson, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “An investigation into how this collision happened is underway and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed it to come forward and contact us.”
