Boy, 12, air-lifted to hospital with '˜potentially major' injuries after crash

A 12-year-old cyclist has been air-lifted to hospital following a '˜serious' crash with a car.

The boy had been riding his bike on Waterloo Road, Blackpool, near the Ansdell Road junction at around 4.45pm when he was involved in a collision with a moving car.

He was air-lifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where he is currently receiving treatment for ‘potentially major’ injuries.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: “He was air-lifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Upon getting there it was determined that he had suffered potentially major trauma.”

In a post on social media, Lancashire road police referred to the incident as ‘serious’.

The junction between Waterloo Road and Ansdell Road has now been reopened.
