Borough to host string of memorial events

Wyre will commemorate the men and women who have fallen while serving their country with a programme of Remembrance events across the borough.

On Saturday, the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Coun Ron and Mrs Brenda Shewan, are hosting the Northern Festival of Remembrance at Marine Hall, Fleetwood.

The festival features a host of musical delights, including The Band of the King’s Division, and is narrated by BBC Radio Lancashire’s Sally Naden.

There will also be a Parade of Standards and a drum head service led by the Mayor’s Chaplain Mr Tom Birch.

The event takes place at 7.30pm and all the proceeds will be donated to the Mayor’s charities, Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice, and in addition the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The Mayor is also hosting an Armistice Day Service at Marine Hall on Tuesday, November 11 at 10.40am.

A two minutes’ silence will be held at 11am, signalled by a maroon flare at the beginning and end.

The service will be followed by The Homecoming, a community parade to commemorate the First World War Centenary and celebrate the restoration of Fleetwood’s Memorial Park.

The parade will travel from Marine Hall Gardens, through the town centre and end at Memorial Park. There is still time to get involved in the parade – visit www.wyre.gov.uk
