Firefighters were only called out seven times during the course of Bonfire Night - the same as last year - to deal with small bonfires.

St Annes Fire Station was called to Squires Gate Lane to tackle a bonfire and Bispham station was called to one incident all night, a small fire on Egerton Road.

Across Lancashire, firefighters tackled 91 bonfires - nine more than 2012.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A lot of the calls turned out to not be an issue - that is crews checking them out and they proved not to be a danger.

“It wasn’t a particularly wet night, so I would expect the weather encouraged people to go out and the public rallied round and helped us.

“There are always other incidents we have to deal with on Bonfire Night, like crashes, so bonfires being out of control are something they could do without.

“The people of Blackpool helped us out and that is to their credit.”
