The whole stadium had to be evacuated due to a report of a small fire at around 10.30am.

As well as home to the Seasiders, the stadium complex is also the headquarters for NHS Blackpool and NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Staff at the NHS offices were among those to be evacuated whilst fire crews investigated.

A spokesman for NHS Blackpool and NHS Fylde and Wyre CCG, said: “I can confirm fire crews were called to the NHS offices at Blackpool Stadium after a boiler over-heated in a staff kitchen, triggering the fire alarm.

"Nobody was hurt in the incident. Staff were evacuated for about 40 minutes before being admitted back into the building."

A spokesman for Blackpool F.C. confirmed that the evacuation had been due to a non-fire incident which had "triggered the alarm."

One fire engine from Forest Gate station attended the stadium and firefighters could be seen entering the building.

But the crew left soon after, once they had established that it was a false alarm.

Yesterday evening, a fire broke out at a fortune teller's shop on the Prom.

A joint investigation into its cause is being carried out by police and fire service.
