CROWDS gathered in North Shore as fire crews tackled a blaze in a disused shop.
The fire broke out in the first floor of the terraced property shortly before 4pm yesterday. Police diverted traffic up Derby Road as five fire engines raced to the scene to tackle the fire.
Peter Randall from the Ellan Vannin Hotel said: “You could see the smoke above the roof tops and quite a few people gathered round to watch what was going on.
“Only one firefighter was working on it at first so it looked pretty dramatic as he stood there with one hose, but soon there were five engines there.”
Staff from Fylde Coast Lettings next door were evacuated.
One staff member said: “I saw the fire as I was driving back to the office and rang the fire brigade. Flames were coming out of the window.”
