MORE than 30 firefighters were called into action after a blaze broke out on a boat.
The 60ft craft was completely destroyed in the fire at Skippool Boat Yard in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Flames also spread to a nearby jetty building at the site on Underbank Road, Stanah.
The fire broke out at 12.40am. The owners were not onboard but are believed to live nearby.
Mick Strickland from Fleetwood Fire Station said: “This was a very tricky fire for us to manage and it is through the hard work of crews it did not spread and cause even further damage.
“The boat has been completely destroyed and the owners are understandably very upset. I think they spent quite a bit of time living on it.
“At this stage we think the fire is accidental and could have been caused by a fault with the generator. It was well alight when we arrived.”
The boat was lying on mud banks and it made access to it very difficult for crews working in the dark. The location meant sourcing water to tackle the flames was also a challenge so six engines had to form a relay.
Investigators will now examine the exact cause of the fire.
