One fire engine was initially called out to the scene at the Hoo Hill Industrial estate, off Hoo Hill Lane, at 9.06pm last night, responding to what was thought to be an outdoor 'fire in the open'.

But two more engines were called to attend when it became evident the blaze was in one of the industrial garage units on the site.

The crews were at the scene until after midnight, using two breathing apparatus and a hose reel.

Watch manager Warren Topp said: "The contents of the unit were destroyed by the fire.

"The cause of this fire is still under investigation."

There was no one working in the unit at the time of the incident.
