Blackpool's NHS champions named by resort MP

A Blackpool MP has named his health champions ahead of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the NHS.

Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden presented certificates to paediatrician Dr Robert Wheatley, for care and compassion, and Alan Reid, of Disability First, for person-centred care, at the Blackpool Centre for Independent Living on Whitegate Drive.

Mr Marsden said: “Dr Wheatley and the team at Disability First are a credit to our National Health Service. It is one of our country’s greatest achievements and the dedication of our hardworking staff makes everyone incredibly proud of our health service.

“Alan and Disability First have built up and used their formidable knowledge of all aspects of Blackpool’s social and health care challenges.

“Their expertise and bespoke support has made a big difference. Dr Wheatley has been at the heart of paediatric care at Blackpool Victoria for 23 years.

“A number of my constituents can testify for his commitment, knowledge and his caring attitude, which was why I chose to nominate him.”
