Blackpool Zoo to crown new Bake Off Champion

Staff at the East Park Drive attraction have been mixing up meals times for all the zoo’s residents by trying out their very own Great British Bake Off task.

Cakes made entirely out of the food animals are allowed to eat have been proving a real hit at meal times.

Entries in to the competition set by zoo bosses included a meerkat cake made from watermelon and mashed potatoes, an orangutan cake made from carrots, and a ‘sealion sundae supreme’ - a layered ice cake made with three types of fish, decorated with fishy ice cubes.

Now the zoo is looking to resort residents to vote for who they think should be crowned Blackpool Zoo Bake Off Champion.

Residents can cast their votes by ‘liking’ their favourite culinary creation on Blackpool Zoo’s Facebook or twitter account.

The zoo was inspired to launch the cookery competition after the nationwide success of The Great British Bake Off.

Queen of the cakes, Mary Berry hosts the hit BBC 1 show, which sees amateur baking fans compete to be crowned the UK’s Best Amateur Baker.

Over the course of 10 hour-long episodes, the series follows the trials and tribulations of the competitors, young and old, from every background and every corner of Britain, as they attempt to prove their baking prowess.

Each week the bakers tackle a different baking skill, which become progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds.

The BAFTA award-winning show has attracted more than 11 million viewers each week since the series began in August.
