Blackpool Zoo closed by storm

Officials at the family attraction on East Park Drive announced on Sunday morning, that despite their best efforts, the high winds had prompted them to close the gates to visitors. It is hoped to open as normal on Monday.

A message on the zoo's Facebook site said: "While we had hoped to stay open today, the gusts this morning have brought some branches down and have made the park unsafe for visitors.

"All of our animals are safe and secure and will continue to be cared for by our (slightly soggy and windswept) keepers.

"We will therefore be closed today. All being well we hope to be open as normal from tomorrow.

"If you do have tickets booked for today, please email [email protected] and we will get back to you tomorrow."
