A BLACKPOOL woman, who caused havoc during a drunken air rage incident, has escaped an immediate jail term.
Cheryl Sweeney, 42, from North Shore, was abusive to staff during a flight to Blackpool from Palma, Majorca, in September last year.
She tried to launch a kick at one cabin crew member after being refused alcohol and also racially abused a police officer when she was arrested after the plane touched down.
At a sentencing hearing, a judge called her conduct "disgraceful".
Mr Justice Swift told Sweeney: "There was a good deal of distress and concern to the crew.
"It almost led to the diversion of the aircraft.
"You then continued your disgraceful conduct towards the police."
But Sweeney, who has a number of previous convictions for violence and public disorder, was given a suspended sentence after apologising to the court.
She claimed she had a traumatic holiday with her partner, alleging she had been physically and verbally abused.
During the hearing, Preston Crown Court heard the cabin crew noticed Sweeney had consumed a number of alcoholic drinks.
