A 90-YEAR-OLD war veteran has been left trapped in his own home after his lifeline to the outside world was heartlessly removed.
Just days after his wife's funeral, workmen took out the stair lift from the communal stairwell outside ex-Polish serviceman Stanley Kukczykajtis' South Shore home because it was in her name.
But it means the crippled pensioner, who serviced Battle of Britain Spitfires during the war, cannot get down the stairs to reach the front door from his first floor flat in South Lawn.
He has not been outside for days and is relying on friends to bring him food and do his shopping.
Coun Lily Henderson, cabinet member for adult social care and housing, said: "We have acted on the instruction of the company which manages the building and removed the stair lift at their request.
"We will now be asking for an occupational therapist to visit Mr Kukczykajtis to assess his needs."
