Blackpool town centre road to close so bridge can be demolished

Work to remove the concrete footbridge that crosses Bank Hey Street in Blackpool town centre is set to start on Friday, August 3.

The demolition, which is set to take between 12 and 18 months, is being done as part of the Sands redevelopment project, the council said.

It will see traffic banned from Bank Hey Street between the junction of Adelaide Street West and Albert Road, and from Adelaide Street West between the junction of the Promenade and Bank Hey Street.

The taxi stands will also be temporarily suspended on the east and west sides of Bank Hey Street, and on the north and south sides of Adelaide Street West.

Motorists will be diverted along the Prom, New Bonny Street and Central Drive in one direction and the reverse in the other.
