She achieved A*s in English language and English literature, and an A in modern history. She is now looking forward to making her mark on Cambridge University - and has her eyes set on the Houses of Parliament.

The soon-to-be-education student, who lives on Anchorsholme Lane, said: “I’m the first in my family to go to university and not only that but it’s Cambridge so I’ve set the bar quite high!

“I’m really excited. I love the course, it’s the dream course for me, and I can’t wait to learn more about something I’m really interested in.

“I think the education system is very focused on statistics and exams which puts a lot of pressure on young people, and we’ve forgotten the real purpose of learning - so I want to be education minister!”

Meanwhile, Fiona Hockey, 18, of Richmond Avenue, is aiming for the Olympics after achieving a triple distinction in BTEC sport.

Fiona, who is heading to Cardiff University, represents the Fylde coast in pole vaulting competitions all over the country.

She said: “I’ve been interested in sport my whole life. The reason I chose Cardiff University was because of their sports programme and coaching for pole vaulting.

Results like these mean that our students will be able to progress to the next stage with a brilliant platform for future success. We are hugely proud of their achievements.”
