Residents in Blackpool have some of the worst credit scores in the country, according to new research.

The resort ranked as the 10th worst town in the UK with an average score of 518 being registered.

The data looks at the first parts of a postcode and combines an average score.

Across the 8 FY postcode districts, FY1 was ranked the worst with an average credit score of 504, with FY6 ranked the highest with an average score of 540.

Wyre’s PR3 scored an average score of 540 with Fylde’s PR4 averaging 528.

On a national scale Kingston upon Thames in Greater London was ranked highest with a score of 547 while Cleveland in the North East was placed last with a score of 513.

The Free Credit Report company looked at credit scores for all available postcode areas, to calculate the average score for districts withTotallyMoney ranking them in order.

A Blackpool Council spokesman said: “If people are struggling with debt there are a number of organisations that can provide confidential support and advice such as Citizens Advice and the National Debt Line.

“Details of these organisations and others can be found on the council’s website. There are also-not-for profit financial co-operatives in Blackpool.”
