When it comes to romancing a loved one on Valentine’s Day, a new survey suggests Blackpool may not be the destination of choice.
According to a poll conducted by hotel chain hotels.com, seven per cent of those asked considered the resort a romantic destination – placing it as the third least romantic place in the UK.
It lags just behind Hull, which despite being chosen as the City of Culture for 2017, failed to ignite passion among the British public when it comes to romantic breaks.
Hull was voted by 19 per cent of Brits to be the least romantic destination, rising three spaces from last year’s report and knocking off last year’s champion, Slough, which didn’t feature in this year’s list at all.
Birmingham came in second for the second year in a row with 11 per cent of the vote, while both London (up four) and Blackpool (up seven) came in at joint third place.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, the hotel website’s reported that 18 per cent of the 1,000 Brits questioned chose London as the top location to take a loved one this year, with last year’s winner, the Lake District, slipping to second place.
Still popular with those aged over 45, 20 per cent of middle aged respondents voted the Lakes the most romantic.
