Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP in the driving seat with compo call
Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard had the best seat onboard as he got to see the benefits of a £255m investment in Blackpool's railways.
He was invited to ride in the cab of Virgin Trains 10.53 departure from Blackpool to London Euston, one of three additional services each way every weekday as a result of the electrification of the line.
He has also been working to support passengers affected by Northern Rail’s recent problems.
He has met the Secretary of State for Transport and Network Rail chief executive Mark Carne to discuss the issue and is calling for proper compensation.
He said: “I have told Northern the settlement it offers to passengers should at least match that offered to Southern commuters.
The company should also ensure it makes good the damage done to businesses in Blackpool and I am pleased to hear it will be sponsoring major tourist events in the town this summer.”
