Blackpool nightclub in Â£130K revamp

Revolution in Market Street has bid hasta la vista to its Cuban themed bar as it focuses more on its classic Russian look.

The Venue has also revamped its kitchen and restaurant areas to make it more food focused.

General manager Martyn Reid said: “While there are two brands within the Revolution Bars Group – Revolution, which is indeed a bar that specialises in vodka and Revolucion de Cuba which specialises in rum. While some towns have both brands of bars within them, there are none that are dual sites. Revolution Blackpool did have one Cuban-themed bar within the site but this is no longer the case and it was never a dual Revolution / Revolucion de Cuba site.“It is a much brighter look and more food orientated with quicker service and extended to 10pm. We have as a result taken on more staff, between 15 and 20 and more chefs.

“The former Cuba top bar area has lost its Cuban tiles and will be will be more drinks friendly while the ground floor, main area, will trend towards dining and a family area near the Prom.”

He said Revolution in Blackpool employs around 45 people, but up to 80 in summer.

The Revolution chain of bars was founded by Roy Ellis and Neil Macleod.

They opened several bars but in 1996 decided to focus on branded bars of the Revolution and Revolucion de Cuba style.

The former took its design inspiration from New York bars and specialised in vodka-based drinks while the latter’s style had a nod towards Fidel Castro’s communist Cuba with drinks specialities based around rum.

They had built up a chain of 22 bars when their company floated on the stock market selling shares for the first time. It was bought valued at £42m in 2006.
