Blackpool is named the worst area in Lancashire

Blackpool was named the worst area in Lancashire - with the county the worst in the country.

Children in Lancashire are at a higher risk of injury on the roads than anywhere else in Britain, according to a new report.

An analysis by the RAC motoring organisation – of accidents between 2010 to 2014 – named Blackpool as the area with the highest proportion of child casualties with 393 victims, followed by Hyndburn with 246, Blackburn with Darwen 491 and Burnley with 248.

Preston came ninth in the list of 10 most affected council areas with 361 casualties.

The rankings are based on average annual child casualties per 10,000 resident children.

Those ‘Full Time Mummy’s’ are putting their children at danger from a very early age. I see them pushing their pram out first into a busy road so that the babies are the ones that test how dangerous the cars and traffic can be. Or like someone has said, they use mobiles while pushing prams!

‘Stop Look Listen’ is what I was taught at school and by my parents.

Nowadays it’s just just chavy parents with no brains.

I think everyone should refresh themselves on the green cross code. Look listen and look again and cross in a safe place, get off your phones, stop listening to music and concentrate. I found a great book for my seven-year-old from the libary on the green cross code. He knows how to cross safely and knows the dangers. Educate your children and lead by example.

When I was a kid in the 1970s, if a car beeped its horn at you it was a shock but more importantly a genuine shame. I’d feel guilty for having been in the wrong and hope that my mum and dad didn’t find out.

These days kids wander out without care and even slow down to make car drivers brake or swerve. If you sound your horn you get abuse in return

What we need is for people to walk in front of cars carrying a red flag to warn the unsuspecting kids of the imminent arrival of a car so they can run in front of it, because after all it is the driver’s fault the kids don’t see the need to stay on the pavement...

I think children should be educated on the dangers of the road, but also a lot of adults have no awareness either, improper use of crossings or just wandering in front of cars and then sticking two fingers up at the driver. Most accidents happen on the road where vehicles are supposed to be, not on pavements where pedestrians are supposed to be..

It’s certainly not a surprise when I drive along the Prom and to my horror see families dodging traffic because there’s not enough crossings. Even with the very few crossings we have drivers appear to not know the rules and keep driving when pedestrians are trying to cross or are crossing.

Does amaze me seeing people trying to cross a few metres from a crossing or the parents who shove their prams out onto the road to see if it’s safe to cross - why take a chance on the special little people in your life?
